Thank you, Bowie

As you likely know, the City of Bowie held an election on April 7. Even with record votes turned in early, the polling places at Kenhill and the City Gym were packed much of the day. The line at the gym lasted over an hour after the doors closed!

With over 6,600 votes cast, I was deeply humbled to win over 50% of the vote. I owe this success to the incredible work of our wonderful volunteer team, and I am grateful for the immense trust Bowie has placed in me.

I'm also grateful to the other candidates, Councilmembers Wanda Rogers and Roxy Ndebumadu, Dennis Brady, Rebecca Pearce, Babatunde Alegbeleye, Remington Tennessee, Takisha Brown, and Conrad Nkimbi for their hard-fought campaigns. Putting yourself in the spotlight isn't easy, and I have immense respect for anyone who stands up to run and serve.

My promise on the campaign trail was simple: I would show up, do the job in front of me, listen, and not shy away from hard choices.

As you are likely aware, Bowie faces many challenges. We have fast-aging infrastructure. We're struggling to recruit and retain critical law enforcement and public works employees. The cost of basic equipment, material, and parts has skyrocketed in recent years beyond normal inflation. We're losing quality retailers to fast food and gas stations. Litter is piling up on our streets.

Bowie deserves better. And tackling these challenges will mean rolling up our sleeves, listening to one another, and accepting hard trade-offs. Many long-waiting bills have come due and there is no avoiding them.

But I know Bowie, and I know Bowie's people. I know that together, we can preserve what we love, pursue what we want, and build a brighter future where we can live in a town we are all proud to call home.

We have much work ahead. Reach out to me anytime!

In service,

Michael
